Two education announcements highlight the last day of the legislative week. Meanwhile, House lawmakers are scheduled to hear a trio of bills stripping Gov. Roy Cooper of certain judicial appointments.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Senate leaders will kick off Thursday with the rollout of their education funding proposal at a 10:30 a.m. news conference.

That proposal comes as Gov. Roy Cooper prepares to give his State of the State address Monday night, which will be a chance for him to tout the education policy ideas he put forward in his recent budget.

While Cooper and Republican lawmakers agree on some broad strokes of education policy this year – both want to raise teacher salaries – they have disagreed on the details.

Later in the day, Sen. Chad Barefoot, R-Wake, and Rep. Craig Horn, R-Union, will be on hand for a "major education announcement" at the Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center on North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus. The event will feature speakers from both the university system and K-12 system.

Senate: The Senate will meet at noon to deal with one bill, which will set the rules for how lawmakers choose members of the State Board of Community Colleges on April 6.

House: The House will meet at 11 a.m. and debate a trio of bills stripping Cooper of certain judicial appointments. Among those measures is a bill shrinking the state Court of Appeals from 15 to 12 members. WRAL.com plans to carry this session live online.

Noted: Among the bills filed Wednesday was House Bill 279, a proposal to require all fantasy sports operators to register with the Secretary of State's Office.

Subpoenas: The General Assembly publishes a full calendar of committee meetings daily. Among the committees we're keeping an eye on Thursday is the Senate Agriculture Committee at 10 a.m., which is scheduled to issue subpoenas to Natural and Cultural Resources Secretary Susi Hamilton and Environmental Quality Secretary Michael Regan for confirmation hearings.

Basketball: Cooper plans to attend at least one Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament game in New York on Thursday.
