The House and the Senate both meet at 7 p.m. Monday. The governor will be in Mebane pushing a historic tax credit program. A legislative committee may not be smiling about a federal ruling on teeth whitening.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol for Monday, March 16. Here's what's going on at the legislature and around state government.

SUNSHINE: Media outlets around the state will be celebrating Sunshine Week this week by highlighting stories that use open records and open meetings to hold government accountable, as well as when officials such as Gov. Pat McCrory thwart requests made under the open records act. Come celebrate with us, or check out our stories on WRAL.com this week.

THE GOVERNOR: McCrory and Cultural Resources Secretary Susan Kluttz will be pushing for the restoration of the state's now-lapsed historic preservation tax credit at Mebane's city hall at 10 a.m.

THE COMMITTEE WE'RE WATCHING: The General Assembly's Joint Program Evaluation Committee meets to examine North Carolina's cornucopia of occupational licensing boards and the state's rules on dental whitening following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that went against the state.

SESSIONS: Both the House and the Senate are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. The Senate will hold a final vote on the bill that contains a controversial gas drilling air quality provision. The House will deal with a bill that restores firearm rights to certain non-violent felons.
