Today@NCCapitol (June 22): Changes to drug insurance, sex offender laws on agenda

The state Senate is scheduled to take up a bill tightening restrictions on sex offenders. The House Insurance Committee will take up a bill limiting the ability of insurance companies to order patients to use cheaper drugs.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today@NCCapitol for Wednesday, June 22. Here's what's going on around the legislature:

SENATE FLOOR (Noon): The state Senate is scheduled to take up a bill that bans child sex offenders from certain locations frequented by children. The chamber is also expected to take up a bill allowing all local governments to donate police dogs to their handlers when the dogs retire. WRAL.com plans to carry this session live online.

HOUSE FLOOR (11 a.m.): The House is expected to vote on four measures returning from the state Senate, including one making changes to various transportation laws.

COMMITTEES: The General Assembly publishes a full committee calendar daily. Here are some of the things we're watching:

House Insurance (1 p.m.): The House Insurance Committee will review a bill that would speed patient access to new drugs.

House Finance (2:30 p.m.): The House Finance Committee will take up bills exempting police body camera video from the public records law and a measure that would help businesses raise money from small investors and ensure certain tax rulings were available for public inspection.
