Today@NCCapitol (June 23): House members look at Senate tax proposal

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today@NCCapitol for Tuesday, June 23. Here's what's going on at the General Assembly.

FIRST UP: The House Finance Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. to review the tax and economic development measures in the Senate budget.

BUDGET: House Speaker Tim Moore said Monday night that he expected the House would officially vote to reject the Senate budget either Tuesday or Wednesday. After that, both chambers would officially appoint a conference committee to resolve the difference between the two bills.

ADVOCATES: Members of the AARP lobby for the return of the medical expense tax deduction at 1:15 p.m. near Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger's office. Both the House and the Senate have proposed bringing the deduction back.

HOUSE: The state House meets at 2 p.m. and is scheduled to take up the chamber's Medicaid reform plan as well as the ABLE Act, which allows families to put away tax-privileged money to care for children with special needs.

SENATE: Senators are scheduled to take a final vote on a bill that contains provisions related to Sunday hunting and a measure allowing terminally ill patients to try treatments that haven't fully cleared FDA approval.
