Don't expect much action in the House Thursday as members take time to observe North Carolina's unofficial state holiday - the ACC Tournament. The Senate is scheduled to wrap up work on a pair of redistricting bills.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol for Thursday, March 12. Here's what's going on at the legislature and around state government.

FIRST UP: Up at 8 a.m.? The Senate Agriculture and Environment Committee will take up the bill carrying the controversial gas drilling air quality provision that dominated discussion in the House this week.

SENATE: Senators are primed to finish up debate on the Wake County Board of Commissioners redistricting bill and could take up the environmental amendments measure from the 8 a.m. committee meeting.

HOUSE: There are no recorded votes scheduled. House leaders have arranged their day to allow for members to watch and/or attend the ACC Tournament in Greensboro.

BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH OF OUR OWN CRAZY: "Brian Riley, Conservative county councillor for Hadleigh, is moving to North Carolina but plans to visit Suffolk on a regular basis," reports the BBC regarding an English city official. "He told the East Anglian Daily Times he intended to use email and Skype to continue in his role. Mark Bee, leader of the council, said Mr Riley's plan 'beggars belief,'" according to the BBC.
