RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today@NCCapitol for Wednesday, June 16. Here's what's going on at the General Assembly and around state government.

THE BUDGET: The state Senate will debate its $21.47 billion budget when its session convenes at 11 a.m. Members pushed the policy-laden measure through the Appropriations, Finance and Pensions committees on Tuesday. They are expected to take the first of two floor votes Wednesday.

Members of the North Carolina Association of Teacher Assistants are expected to be on hand to protest provisions that cut roughly 8,000 TAs across the state.

GUNS: The House plans to finish its debate on the much altered omnibus firearms bill when it goes into session at 1:30 p.m. Other items on the calendar include a bill calling for the state to divest itself of investments related to Iran and a bill allowing the Division of Motor Vehicles to send registration renewal notices via email.

THE GOVERNOR: Gov. Pat McCrory, Transportation Secretary Tony Tata and budget director Lee Roberts will hold an event at North Carolina Central University in Durham to pitch the governor's $3 billion bond package.

BOARD OF ELECTIONS: The state Board of Elections has moved a 2 p.m. hearing from its offices on North Harrington Street in Raleigh to Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law because an air conditioner broke at the SBOE headquarters. The board will hold a hearing to determine whether the campaign committee for Sen. Fletcher Hartsell, R-Cabarrus, violated state laws with regard to how expenses were reported.
