Today @NCCapitol (Sept. 16): Budget votes and sex education

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today @NCCapitol for Wednesday, Sept. 16. Here's what's going on at the legislature and around state government.

BUDGET VOTE: After giving the measure tentative approval Tuesday, the state Senate is scheduled to take its final vote on the $21.7 billion state budget. The House is scheduled to vote on the bill Thursday and early Friday morning.

NEW RULES: The Senate Rules Committee meets at 10 a.m. Chairman Tom Apodaca, R-Henderson, told his colleagues Tuesday that up to 20 bills could be heard, although only 13 were listed on the calendar Tuesday night. Among the measures on the calendar are bills urging the placement of a Billy Graham statue in Congress and curbing the misclassification of workers as independent contractors. HOUSE: Members of the House are scheduled to vote on bills that would change who signs off on sex education curriculum and a bill limiting local government's ability to regulate water protection buffers, beehives and other items.
