A high of 88 degrees is expected for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with overnight lows hitting 67 degrees.
“On Sunday, we’ll see a few stray showers. We can’t rule it out today, either,” WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said. “But the weather should be overall just fine for the weekend, on the warm side.”
The month of May ends on a mellow note for weather watchers.
Daily temperatures never reached 90 degrees. That’s a sharp contrast from May 2012, which saw five 90-degree days.
Lows of 39 and 41 degrees were recorded this May, compared with 47 degrees last May.
“It’s been a pretty mild May,” Wilmoth said. “Temperatures are now starting to warm up, and we’ll be close to 90, but it looks like we’ll make it through the month without hitting 90 degrees.”
Humidity on Friday should break up overnight, and Saturday will start out dry. But a chance of isolated showers will remain, Wilmoth said.
The best chance of rain is Monday, when a cold front moves in from the west.
