HOLYOKE, MA — Dozens of Holyoke residents woke up this morning to discover that tires on their cars were slashed sometime overnight.

One of the areas where the vandalism occurred includes near Hampshire and Walnut Streets.

The suspect or suspects flattened two tires on each of the vehicles, which made it necessary for the cars to be towed.

Besides Hampshire and Walnut Streets, police said that the vandalism occurred on Elm, Pine, and Appleton Streets.

"I woke up to two out of four tires being slashed," said Rebecca Rooke of Holyoke.

Rooke is just one of many residents whose tires were slashed overnight.

Initial reports indicate at least 30 people had their tires slashed.

"Couldn't go to work, and now, I have to figure out how to come up with the money to fix it. My insurance doesn't cover it," Rooke added.

Rooke said she has a $500 deductible on her car insurance policy.

Also waking up to the bad news was one couple, whose CR-V with handicapped plates had two tires flattened.

"My neighbor across the street came banging at the door and said 'Wake up Joe. My tires were slashed and yours are slashed,'" said Bernice Schiappa of Holyoke.

Joe Schiappa of Holyoke added, "It's unbelievable,we've never had anything like this before i just couldn't believe it"

Around the corner on Hampshire Street, more tires were slashed,

"When I wake up, it's just like this," said Maria Santiago.

This isn't the first time Santiago woke up to damage to her car. Recently, a bullet hit the roof of her car.

"Three weeks ago, a shooting here and it hit my car with on top," Santiago added.

Police continue their investigation into who was responsible for this recent wave of vandalism in this area. So far, no arrests have been made.
