Burlington, N.C. — Police said a 53-year-old pedestrian was intoxicated when he was hit by a car Friday in Burlington.
The incident happened about 7 p.m. in the intersection of Rauhut and Hatch streets. Burlington police said Carlton Crutchfield was walking west across Rauhut Street when he was hit by a 1999 Chrysler traveling south on the roadway.
Crutchfield was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospital. His condition was not released.
The driver of the car, identified as Micah Jasper, 28, of Burlington, and his passenger were unhurt.
Police said Crutchfield failed to yield to oncoming traffic, and alcohol was a contributing factor for the pedestrian.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Burlington police at 336-229-3500 or Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100.
