They identified several causes of basement moisture, and listed solutions. Here are a few reasons for basement moisture: Missing or defective downspouts, ineffective sump pit or drain tile, structural cracks, and improperly designed window wells. These are all problems that might require the help of a contractor, but reading the University of Minnesota guide is a good place to start if you are trying to figure out a basement moisture problem.
