I know we have months before Santa will be popping down those chimneys, but it's time to start planning for the season.

Tickets to Pullen Park's popular Holiday Express will go on sale Tuesday, July 28. The annual event is scheduled for Dec. 3 to Dec. 6 and Dec. 10 to Dec. 14. It runs 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., nightly. The event features the park lit up with thousands of lights, along with special activities including a train ride, live music, a carousel ride, crafts and a visit with Santa.

Tickets for this event usually sell out a week or more before it's scheduled. But it's best to get them sooner than later if you want to ensure you get the more popular tickets.

For this event, tickets are based on designated train boarding times to cut back on long lines. Tickets to board the train before 6:30 p.m. on Friday or Saturday evenings, for instance, are among the first to sell out - sometimes months in advance. So now is the time!

(One note on the train boarding times: Regardless of when a train boarding time is, ticket holders can enter the event at any time that evening. So if you have a 7 p.m. ticket, you can still enter the event at 4 p.m., for instance).

Tickets are $8 per person and are required for all guests 24 months and older. Children under 24 months without a paid admission must be held or sit in the lap of an accompanying adult during the train ride. They can't have their own seat.

Tickets can be purchased online through Reclink or at any staffed Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources facility. The city's website has more information.
