Thursday wrap: Road money and insurance discounts

McCrory and Transportation Secretary want to scrap a funding formula that spread money for road projects across the state and use one in which most money is allocated to projects deemed important to statewide or regional economic needs.

Meanwhile, the Senate passed bills that would allow auto insurance companies to introduce proprietary discount programs within the Rate Bureau structure and would prevent older drivers from having to pay the three-year surcharge that insurers usually tack on the bills of novice drivers.

Also, an education reform plan that creates a probationary system for veteran teachers passed the full House, and a House appropriations subcommittee questioned Health and Human Services Secretary about plans to overhaul the state Medicaid program.
