Thursday wrap: Dix deal could be undone

Raleigh, N.C. — Republican lawmakers are trying to void Raleigh's lease of the 325-acre Dorothea Dix campus.
Companion bills want to renegotiate the city's 99-year lease for an urban park, saying the state should receive fair market value for a portion of the site. Some of the property would continue to be used for state Department of Health and Human Services offices, under the legislation.
Meanwhile, a House panel approved a bill to allow Charlotte to redirect some of its accommodations tax money to pay for upgrades to Bank of America Stadium.
Lawmakers and lobbyist Moore & Van Allen spent much of the day trying to distance themselves from an Oklahoma businessman accused of fraud in Florida. He runs an Internet sweepstakes software company and has donated more than $150,000 to both Republicans and Democrats in North Carolina in the past year.
