DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham neighborhood is shaken after three people and a dog were attacked by a rabid fox Saturday.

Carly Carroll said the attacked happened across the street from her home on West Markham Avenue. She said the fox came from behind the neighbor's home and attacked a dog and two adults.

The woman who was attacked told WRAL News that her husband managed to get the fox off her and the 8-pound dog and into a crate. The fox tested positive for rabies.

Saturday's attack marked the third confirmed case of rabies in Durham this year. At this time last year, Durham County Animal Services reported five confirmed rabies cases.

Officials urge residents to vaccinate their outdoor pets.
