La Grange, N.C. — Three men in their 20s were killed early Tuesday morning when the car they were in crashed into a tree near Goldsboro, investigators said.
Rene Aguilar Sanchez, 21, Serafin Garcia Saucedo, 24, and Louis Morales, 23, all of La Grange, crashed on North Beston Road at about 4 a.m. Troopers said the car crashed into a tree, flipped over, struck another tree and caught fire.
Investigators said the cause of the wreck was reckless driving, but neighbors said they have seen crashes at this location before.
"I opened up the garage door, looked out and saw there was a car on fire," said Brendan Garris, who lives nearby.
Garris said the road is dangerous.
"I've seen (cars) go airborne over the railroad track," he said. "It is just such a tragedy. They were so young."
Dameko Ardia, a good friend of Sanchez, said he was the type of person who could always make him laugh.
"He was always happy...every time I was feeling down, he would make me laugh," he said.
No additional information about the crash was immediately available.
A cross was placed at the crash site as a way to remember the three men.
