RALEIGH, N.C. — Four people, including a child, were injured Wednesday afternoon and a young man died in a crash on Capital Boulevard in north Raleigh.

The two-vehicle collision occurred shortly before 1 p.m. near Simms Creek Road, just south of the Perry Creek Road intersection.

Raleigh police said Aaleyah Samantha Russell, 18, struck a puddle and hydroplaned, losing control of her 2002 GMC SUV as she headed south on Capital Boulevard. She veered across the median and into the northbound lanes, where she struck a 2008 Ford pickup driven by Gregory Madison Adams, 43.

A passenger in Russell's car, Ashanie Shermar Russell, 18, died in the crash. Four others were injured: Aaleyah Russell, another passenger in her car, Michael Kevon Gregory, 14, Adams and the 8-year-old passenger in his car, Colton Foster.

All of the injuries were believed to be serious, police said.

All northbound lanes of Capital Boulevard were closed at Interstate 540 for more than three hours, and one southbound lane was closed at Simms Creek Road.
