A mother and her two daughters were killed in an accident on Interstate-85 southbound in Greensboro on Saturday.

The victims, all of Charlotte, were Diane Brooks, 57, and Hadiya Brookes, 28, both of 4941 Winchester Street, and Angelique Gibson, 37, of 2736 Daffodil Street. Police said the women were traveling to Raleigh for a baby shower when the accident occurred.

The accident happened when a van attempted to cross three lanes, going from the far right lane to the far left lane. A tractor trailer broadsided the van, causing both vehicles to go down the left embankment, which is close to the I-85 bridge that runs over Business 85.

The driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries to his knee. Hadiya Brooks’ 2-year-old twins suffered scrapes and bruises.

No charges have been filed in the accident.
