Three dead in Cumberland County wreck

Authorities said Jimmy Junior Locklear, 22, was driving his 1996 Ford Taurus about 100 mph on Clinton Road near Bladen Circle when the car left the pavement, struck a mailbox and hit a stand of trees shortly after midnight.

Locklear and his brother, 15-year-old Joshua Locklear, died at the scene along with 19-year-old Torey Deanthony Mosley II, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Passenger Jamarkis Harris, 20, of East Fayetteville, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where his condition was not immediately known. Troopers said Harris suffered multiple broken bones and other injuries.

The posted speed limit where the wreck occurred is 45 mph. Troopers said alcohol also was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

According to court records, Mosley was charged in January with driving while impaired after he crashed into a sheriff's deputy's car.

Friends who stopped by the site after the crash said the Locklear brothers lived nearby. Joshua Locklear was a freshman at Cape Fear High School.

Classmate Quamesha McLaurin described him as fun and outgoing.

"It's hard processing that they're gone because I didn't really think that they were actually dead," she said. 

Norma Whitted, a cousin of the Locklears, said the brothers were "good kids."

"I hate that they're gone," she said. "I'm going to miss them, and they're going to be really missed."
