Three charged with robbing pizza delivery man

Officers responded to the robbery call at 11:54 p.m. and found the injured deliveryman on Angier Avenue. He told officers he had gotten out of his car to make a pizza delivery in the 100 block of South Holman Street when three masked men approached and struck him on the head with a firearm.

The victim briefly blacked out, and when he regained consciousness, he discovered that his pizzas and his vehicle, a 1995 blue Geo Prizm, had been stolen, police said.

He was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of head and facial injuries.

About 30 minutes later, K-9 Officer M.D. Mues and Officer S.J. Kimball spotted a blue Geo Prizm on East Pettigrew Street near Driver Street and attempted to stop it near Salem Street and Angier Avenue. Four men jumped out and ran, but the driver kept going, police said.

Kimball caught two men after a brief chase on foot, but the other two who ran escaped, police said.

Mues and other officers chased the Prizm for about 20 minutes on Liberty Street, U.S. Highway 70, N.C. Highway 147 and several other streets, police said. A state Highway Patrol trooper threw out “stop sticks” near Morehead Avenue and Chapel Hill Road, which caused three of the Prizm’s tires to go flat, and the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole on Chapel Hill Street near Buchanan Boulevard, police said.

Pablo Daniel Reyes, 17, of Chapel Hill Street, Juan Rodriguez, 17, of East Oak Drive, and Alex Deharo, 16, of Oakview Street, were each charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle and assault inflicting serious injury. Deharo was also charged with felony speeding to elude law enforcement officers and driving without a license.
