— Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office charged three people Thursday with an attack on chickens at a Faison farm.

Allen Thornton reported someone broke into his chicken houses on Eldon Thornton Road Oct. 10 and killed almost 500 chickens.

Investigators found most of the 482 chickens appeared to have been beaten by a blunt instrument. Others died from stress.

Stephen Tyler Hobbs, 17, of Mt. Olive, Jonathan Michael Puckett, 17, of Calypso, and a 15-year-old juvenile were charged with breaking and entering, animal cruelty and conspiracy in the attack.

Hobbs and Puckett were released on $10,000 bond apiece. The juvenile was referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

These boys are three sick puppies, in my book.
I sure wouldn't want them living in my neighborhood or, for that matter, in school with my kids!

Were they planning on cooking all 500 chickens at a party with their friends? Their punishment should be to have to work at these chicken houses for free or until they have repaid that person for what they stole from him. Prison is too easy for those too.

If they havn't already done so, Sampson County needs to also charge them with the break in. These boys need some prison time.

I would think it's a lot of work to kill 500 chickens through blunt force.

DeathRow - these "boys with nothing better to do" didn't just kill the chickens - they beat them to death with a blunt object. This is a sign of much worse problems than boredom and nothing to do. Sociopathic is more like it.

Destruction of property more like it, but maybe the killing of animals carries stiffer penalties? You never know, those animal lovers can pass some tough laws ;) lol.

Senseless bored stupidity knows no limits.

What are they putting in the water in Mount Olive that is making people violent toward animals. The dog that was shot for no reason last month by a police officer was in Mount Olive.

Boys with nothing better to do?????!!!1 Are you serious. Breaking and entering is a crime, not to mention someone made their living off of these animals. The article doesnt say, but the 500 that were killed may have been all the guy had. Now he's just supposed to be cool with the fact that "its just kids". Please.
