CLINTON, N.C. — Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office charged three people Thursday with an attack on chickens at a Faison farm.

Allen Thornton reported someone broke into his chicken houses on Eldon Thornton Road Oct. 10 and killed almost 500 chickens.

Investigators found most of the 482 chickens appeared to have been beaten by a blunt instrument. Others died from stress.

Stephen Tyler Hobbs, 17, of Mt. Olive, Jonathan Michael Puckett, 17, of Calypso, and a 15-year-old juvenile were charged with breaking and entering, animal cruelty and conspiracy in the attack.

Hobbs and Puckett were released on $10,000 bond apiece. The juvenile was referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
