Three charged in probe of Chapel Hill tag office
Three people face felony charges in connection with a state Division of Motor Vehicles investigation of a license plate agency in Chapel Hill.

The DMV closed the agency, at 1704-B E. Franklin St. in Gateway Commons, on July 14 while investigating a tip involving "possible violations of state laws."
Karen Alexis Lopez Cisneros, 22, Deanna Ariel Lucas, 25, and Angie Marie Troublefield, 39, were charged with one count each of accessing government computers with the purpose to defraud. More charges and more arrests are possible, officials said.
License plate agencies are independently operated and contract with the DMV to provide vehicle registration services, title transactions and license plate renewals, replacement tags and duplicate registrations. The Chapel Hill agency had been in operation since 2013, but its state contract has been canceled.
