HENDERSON, N.C. — Three people have been charged in connection with an incident that led to an officer-involved shooting in Henderson on Saturday.

Two officers with the Henderson Police Department were responding to a domestic juvenile call within the 400 block of Orange Street when gunshots were heard nearby.

The officers said they witnessed the moment a 33-year-old woman was shot at the intersection of Walnut Street and Pettigrew Street.

According to officials, a gold-colored Lexus that was involved in the shooting sped towards the officers at a high speed with the passenger still displaying his gun. One of the officers fired his weapon at the Lexus while the second officer returned to his vehicle and began pursuing the car. Less than a block away, a passenger exited the vehicle and ran from the car.

The car continued on before the vehicle stopped, and officers arrested the driver and a rear passenger without incident. The driver received a single gunshot wound to his lower leg and was treated and released from a local hospital.

Randolph Jones Jr. and O'Sha Dyshon Jones are charged with attempted murder and were being held in the custody of the Vance County Sheriff's Office.

A warrant for Devontay D. Richardson remains unserved, according to the district attorney's office.

Charles Watson heard the shooting. He said it was upsetting to see the scene in his neighborhood, but he's not too surprised by it.

"It ain't just that neighborhood. It's all of them. People got guns that don't even deserve guns," he said.

District Attorney Mike Waters said the State Bureau of Investigation was interviewing witnesses on Monday.

"The first determination is whether the use of force was appropriate. And then if the use of force was not appropriate, that’s when we’d make a charging decision on whether or not to present the matter to the grand jury," he said.

Waters said the last officer-involved shooting in Henderson was in 2015.

"It’s obviously a very sensitive thing. The community wants to see that this is done independently, that it’s transparent. And then there’s also an urgency because we want answers," Waters said.

The 33-year-old woman received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. The officer who fired the gun has been placed on administrative leave, per departmental policy.

"Obviously, these are very difficult cases, but we are going to work very hard to get it resolved quickly," Waters said.
