BUNN, N.C. — A three-car wreck in Franklin County sent seven people to the hospital Saturday night, including two children, state troopers said Sunday.

A man was driving left of center on Bunn Elementary School Road and collided head-on with a car containing a woman and her child, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. A second car, driven by the woman's sister with a passenger and a 13-month-old child inside, tried to avoid the collision, but the man hit her car on the driver's side as well, troopers said.

Both women spun off the road.

The man, who also had a passenger in his car, was charged with driving while impaired, expired driver's license and careless and reckless driving.

Everyone in the three cars was transported to WakeMed Hospital.

The driver of the first car was pinned in the vehicle by the steering wheel and had surgery early Sunday, troopers said. Her injuries were the most severe.

The names of those involved were not released.
