Three Marines killed in Afghanistan; NC Air National Guard to deploy

Three Camp Lejeune Marines were killed during combat Friday in Afghanistan, the military announced Monday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Three Camp Lejeune Marines were killed during combat Friday in Afghanistan, the military announced Monday.

Staff Sgt. David H. Stewart, 34, of Stafford, Va.; Lance Cpl. Brandon J. Garabrant, 19, of Peterborough, N.H.; and Lance Cpl. Adam F. Wolff, 25, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, were all members of the 2nd Marine Division.

On the same day that the Marines' deaths were making news, the North Carolina Air National Guard announced plans to send some 100 members of the 145th Airlift Wing to Afghanistan from their base at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
