A transformer issue knocked out power for thousands of residents in Cary, Apex and Morrisville for about an hour Wednesday morning.

It wasn't clear what caused the problem, but at its peak the outage impacted about 10,000 Wake County residents, according to the Progress Energy website. Law enforcement officials in the area began receiving calls regarding the outage and malfunctioning traffic signals about 6:30 a.m.

By 7:50 a.m., most power had been restored to the area.

@"common tater"... i thought the same thing! My power (in Apex) went out at 6:33am (I was alerted by the transfer of power to a smoke alarm with a weak battery!)...and was back on in less than 5 minutes! Just long enough to have to reset all the clocks. I'm sure there were some folks late to work today.

All those heat pump auxiliaries kicking in for the cold weather, causing an extra heavy load.

Our power went out about 6:30am for 10 minutes.

"Will I get a credit on my bill? "

Road-wearier: Well...if you weren't using any power, you've already gotten the credit...

Cool. That's our deep thought for the day.

I live in Cary and ours was out only about 5 minutes, thank goodness!!
