Thousands expected at Fort Bragg's Independence Day celebration

Last year's event was canceled due to budget cuts, but the event's return promises to be an even bigger party. Event organizers are expecting a crowd of at least 60,000 people.

"We are thrilled to be able to host our surrounding communities for our 4th of July celebration," said Col. Jeff Sanborn, Fort Bragg's garrison commander. "The City of Fayetteville and the Village of Pinehurst had terrific events last year in our absence, but we take great pride in giving our military families and our supportive surrounding communities a spectacular show on such a patriotic day. This one will be very special."

A big draw is country star Josh Turner and rock band .38 Special, as well as the popular fireworks show – with over 750 explosions – to end the evening.

Other attractions during the course of the afternoon and evening include parachute demonstrations, a flag ceremony and the 82nd Division All American Band.

Children and families will want to check out Kiddieland, which is full of bounce houses, slides, climbing walls and other activities. Unlimited admission to Kiddieland is $10 per child.
