NC State Veterinary Medicine will open its doors this Saturday for its long-running and very popular annual open house.

The open house is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at the vet college off Hillsborough Street near the State Fairgrounds. It's free. Registration is not required. Kids must be with a parent or guardian at all times - and pets should be left at home.

The annual event offers a chance for the public (of all ages) to learn more about what happens at the college with hands-on activities; behind-the-scenes tours; and demonstrations, including dog agility and animal care. Kids will enjoy seeing chicks, cows, horses, turkeys, goats and pigs up close at the Teaching Animal Unit.

The event's website has much more information and a full schedule of events. I recommend getting there early as it can get very busy.

NC State is offering lots of family-friendly fun this week. Also on the schedule is Farm Animal Days through Friday and Raulston Blooms on Saturday.
