Third suspect sought in Durham staged-accident ring

Mamie L. Jackson, 40, 3321 Tarleton East in Durham, and Delton L. Dorty, Jr., 26, 100 Kent Lake Drive, Apartment 103 in Durham, were arrested. An arrest warrant for one count of conspiracy has been issued for the arrest of Jackson’s daughter, Tabytha Alyce Everett, 21, 1519 Glasgow St. in Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities have arrested two suspects and are seeking a third person in an alleged ring of staged accidents, Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said Friday.

Mamie L. Jackson, 40, 3321 Tarleton East in Durham, and Delton L. Dorty, Jr., 26, 100 Kent Lake Drive, Apartment 103 in Durham, are accused of staging several auto accidents and filing fraudulent insurance claims for vehicle damage and injuries stemming from them, according to arrest warrants.

An arrest warrant for one count of conspiracy has been issued for the arrest of Jackson’s daughter, Tabytha Alyce Everett, 21, 1519 Glasgow St. in Durham.

Everett is accused of participating in the accident ring.

Anyone with information about Everett’s whereabouts should contact Durham Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840.

Jackson is charged with three counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense, two counts of conspiracy and one count of obtaining an insurance policy by false pretense.

Dorty is charged with two counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and two counts of conspiracy.

Jackson and Dorty were being held on Friday at the Durham County jail under a $20,000 secured bond and $15,000 secured bond, respectively.
