DURHAM, N.C. — A third person has been arrested in connection with an April police chase that ended in a wreck outside Duke University Hospital.

Durham police said officers responded to a shooting call in the 3800 block of Dearborn Drive on April 27 after shots were fired into an occupied apartment by several men in a sliver Honda Accord. Nobody inside the apartment was injured but the apartment and a vehicle parked outside sustained damage.

Police said an officer attempted to stop the Honda a short while later, after spotting it on North Roxboro Street, and a chase ensued.

Four people fled the car and shots were fired at two officers, who were not injured.

Jamol Louis Dixon, 27, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the incident. He was charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, discharging a firearm within city limits, going armed to the terror of the public, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Nicholas Javon Banks, 20, and Larry Kirkland, Jr., 18, both of Durham were previously arrested in connection with the incident and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied residence, felony conspiracy, and injury to property. Banks was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and Kirkland was charged with felony hit-and-run.

Banks and Kirkland remained in the Durham County Jail under $500,000 bonds. A bond amount had not been set for Dixon as of Tuesday night.
