Third Marine charged in restaurant shooting

A third Camp Lejeune Marine was charged Friday in a shooting last Sunday outside a Jacksonville restaurant that wounded three people.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A third Camp Lejeune Marine was charged Friday in a shooting last Sunday outside a Jacksonville restaurant that wounded three people.

Details about the charges filed by the Jacksonville police against Lance Cpl. Robert J. Goense, 19, of Union, N.J., haven't been released. The Marine Corps said Goense is being held in the Onslow County Jail.

Sgt. Michael Haridat, 28, of Bronx, N.Y., is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Lance Cpl. Erwin J. Rodriguez Jr., 21, of Arlington, Va., is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, reports the Daily News of Jacksonville.

The newspaper reports that Haridat shot Christian Onate, 29, and Rodriguez shot Jonni Aidoo, 27, in the parking lot of La Maracas, on Lejeune Boulevard, at about 4 a.m. A third victim, Enation Roney, 27, remains hospitalized.

Police said the shooting followed an argument that began inside the restaurant.

All three suspects are riflemen assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

The Marine Corps is cooperating with Jacksonville police in the investigation of the shooting.
