The week ahead: Skating, fast cars and holiday cheer

Posted December 23, 2013

Children and families frolic at the Ice Factory at the Cage - a new ice skating rink sponsored by the Carolina Hurricanes on the American Tobacco Campus.

— Just because this is a holiday week doesn't mean there isn't a ton to do in the Triangle. So, put down your eggnog long enough to check out some of these events.

Some highlights:

Monday: Get into the spirit by seeing "Carolina Ballet's The Nutcracker."

Tuesday: Celebrate Christmas Eve by hitting the ice at The Ice Factory in Durham or in downtown Raleigh at Winterfest.

Wednesday: Merry Christmas! You can skate today at Winterfest in downtown Raleigh from 4 to 9 p.m. And if you are in the Durham area, maybe check out the Washington-Duke Inn's Christmas Buffet extravaganza.

Thursday: Take in the Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art or head over to Broughton High School for some basketball at the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational, which runs through Saturday.

Friday: Cheer on the Canes as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at PNC Arena.
