The week ahead: Hopscotch, Bull Durham Blues

RALEIGH, N.C. — Hopscotch Music Festival, Hopscotch Design Festival and Bull Durham Blues Festival are bringing the best music and art to the Triangle this week.

The Durham Bulls take on the Norfolk Tides during their last regular season game Monday afternoon. They are headed to the post-season though. 

Playmakers Repertory presents "Rodney King," a solo performance by Roger Guenveur Smith. King endured police brutality, the glare of an unrelenting media and notoriety as the symbolic spark of the LA riots. His plaintive "Can we all get along?" remains an open question in America's complicated relationship with race. The performance will be followed by audience discussion with the artist.

The inaugural Hopscotch Design Festival brings together national and local talent to share ideas and foster conversation about how design is shaping the future. There will be 25 speakers in different venues around the city covering topics like urban planning, technology, architecture, film and more.

Hopscotch Music Festival begins Thursday and continues through Saturday. There are so many shows going on around downtown Raleigh tonight, and there are free day parties as well. Headlining tonight's City Plaza show is De La Soul. Visit our Hopscotch page for more information.

In case you needed even more music this week, the Bull Durham Blues Festival begins Friday. The two-day festival includes performances by The Red Dirt Revelators, The Rousters, Phil Cook, Grady Champion and more. Tickets start at $35.
