The week ahead: Film, literary festivals

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and the NC Literary Festival are both this week – plus some more fun events!

Monday

Start off the week with some laughs at Tir na nOg's Cure for the Mondays Comedy Night. This is an open mic stand-up comedy show.

Tuesday

Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL Tour plays PNC Arena Tuesday and Wednesday night. A spectacular and dazzling show, it is one of the highest-grossing music tours of all time. Tickets start at $50.
No joke, today is the start of NC Beer Month. Check out the highlights for fun events and festivals going on!

Wednesday

Zinda hosts Swine & Dine this evening, a five-course dinner featuring different parts of the hog paired with Crank Arm Brewing beers. Tickets are $65.

Thursday

The NC Literary Festival begins today and runs through Sunday at Hunt Library on NC State's Centennial Campus. Events are free and include readings, book discussions and signings, performances and many children's activities. Popular authors participating include Frances Mayes, Wilton Barnhardt, Walt Wolfram, Cat Warren, R.L. Stine and more.
In downtown Durham, the four-day Full Frame Documentary Film Festival begins. The event features over 100 documentary screenings, panel discussions and parties. Tickets to individual films are $15, although there are several free screenings and events.
And the Durham Bulls open their season on Thursday against the Gwinnett Braves. Fans will get a chance to see the newly renovated DBAP. 

Friday

Popular comedian Katt Williams comes to PNC Arena Friday evening for what's sure to be a hilarious, high-energy show.
Yet another festival kicks off Friday – the Oaks and Spokes Bike Festival begins with a fun group bike ride through Raleigh and a bike art show at Benelux Cafe.
And it's also First Friday! Later in the week we will have more information on First Friday specials and events.
