Peter and the Starcatcher

— From musicals to sci-fi stars, this is going to be a fun week in the Triangle.

Here are our picks:

The Got to Be NC Competition Dining Series crowns a winner tonight. Rex Healthcare's Ryan Conklin is going up against Curt Shelvey of Curt's Cucina in Southern Pines. The winning chef will move on to the Final Fire series and compete against winners from other parts of the state later this year.

Two hit musicals open in the Triangle tonight. Kinky Boots begins its run at the DPAC and Peter and the Staratcher plays Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. Both shows run through Sunday.

It's a great night for music. Elton John plays the Crown Center in Fayetteville. In the Triangle, singer-songwriter Andy Grammer will be performing at Lincoln Theatre.

The Carolina Inn hosts the Hops and High Cuisine Dinner featuring Foothills Brewery. Tickets are $55 per person for this four-course meal.

The 2015 Wizard World Comic Con Raleigh starts this afternoon at the Raleigh Convention Center. Celebs attending this year include "Dr. Who" star David Tennant, Ian Somerhalder from "The Vampire Diaries," William Shatner and Sean Astin. Tickets are $35 a person.

Don't support the Wizard World comic con. Not only is it outrageously expensive, everyone there charges a LOT for their signature. The company behind the con goes around the country preying on local shows (run by local businesses) that have already gotten established in the area. Wizard World swoops in and books the same dates for the same venues in future years, which cheats the local shows out of their own conventions that they worked hard to establish

If you wanted to go to a REAL comic con, you should have gone to the Oak City Comic Show last weekend: http://oakcitycomicshow.com/
AND there's the NC Comic Con in November: http://nccomicon.com/

Buy local! DON'T go to Wizard World!
