PITTSBORO, N.C. — The Root Cellar Cafe and Catering will open a second location in Pittsboro, owners announced Tuesday.

The 3,725 square-foot cafe will be located in the new Penguin Place at Chatham Park. The menu and catering options will be the same as the Chapel Hill location, but there will be more outdoor seating and a stronger focus on dinner service with an expanded menu that will include seasonal flavors.

The Chapel Hill cafe is known for its scratch-made sandwiches, pizza, salads, baked goods, coffee and breakfast. The Pittsboro location will continue those offerings but won't have a pizza oven.

Root Cellar's new location will also offer family dinner and Paleo family dinner programs, which give guests a weeks-worth of scratch-made meals available for pick-up.

Owners owners Sera Cuni and Susan White are hoping to open in late summer.

“We are thrilled to be opening in Pittsboro and have dreamed about this for several years” White said. “I grew up in Chatham County, Sera moved here in 2003, and we made Pittsboro our home together nearly seven years ago. We love this community and look forward to bringing our scratch-made food to Chatham Park and to helping our local economy grow.”

Root Cellar will be anchoring the new Penguin Place, a 14,400 square-foot development located at the entry to Chatham Park at Russet Run and Suttles Road. Bottle Revolution will also open a location in Penguin Place. The bottle shop and bar has locations in Raleigh and Morrisville.
