The Oxford closing its doors this month

Posted January 11, 2016

The Oxford and Raleigh Brewing Company teamed up for The Grand Finale Beer Dinner.

— After eight years in business, The Oxford in downtown Raleigh announced that it will close up shop later this month.

The restaurant, located at 319 Fayetteville St., will hold a final celebration on Sunday, Jan. 24.

"In many English towns, the pub is central to the entire community, and The Oxford is no exception. It’s been the place for engagements, family gatherings, birthday celebrations, happy hours, live music, Sunday brunches and much more," Eschelon Experiences founder and president Gaurav “G” Patel said. “As one of my first concepts, The Oxford will always hold a special place in my heart. The decision to close our doors was not an easy one and we are sad to say goodbye."

And they worry about there not being enough hotels....jeez, you will get hotels and have no where to eat by them before too long. Sad that the city of Raleigh can't see these things as being detrimental

No happy hours in NC. Have to give a discount all day long to everyone.
Downtown restaurants do have lunch hour. But, if they are too expensive then I wouldn't go for lunch.

The leases must be too high, which makes the food too expensive. Building owners are raising prices with anticipation of more downtown restaurants or some restaurant owners are charging too much for a nice dinner out on the town. Maybe something similar or better will be replace it. We need happy hours to maintain weekly business. It's hard to stay open counting on Thurs-Sat., and occasional downtown events and restaurant week.

Why are all my favorite restaurants closing? Soon, McDonalds and Wendy's will be the only choices.
