The Clean Cut: Viral video makes cop the hero of all good drivers

Posted February 28

“The auto industry has made incredible advancements in technology and safety in vehicles,” explains John Perrine, Public Information Officer for the Indiana State Police, in a viral video released Friday. “Let me show you what it does. It’s amazing."

What Perrine called “the often forgotten, incredible safety feature that is standard on all vehicles,” is a turn signal. Perrine walks over to the police cruiser and further details the miraculous feature that can prevent crashes and roadrage.

The video, released on Facebook, has been viewed over 11 million times and shared over 230,000 times. Fans of the turn signal have expressed their appreciation for the officer’s humor in the comments, and some submitted their ideas for other much needed reminders, such as turning headlights on at dawn and how to drive in a roundabout.

Perrine said it’s not just about the law but also about respect.

“Now this is not only the right thing to do, it’s not only against the law not to use it, but it’s the courteous thing to do,” he said.
