RALEIGH, N.C. — For people who made a New Year's resolution to lose weight, a big question comes to mind: How do I shed pounds without breaking the bank on an expensive gym membership?

Some gym memberships can cost more than $100 a month, but one Triangle gym owner said people can build an effective home gym — for as little as $10.

And some of the equipment might already be in the kitchen.

Kelly Dunn, the owner of Burn Boot Camp, has spent years hearing from her customers how hard it is to get to the gym, which is why she said she wanted to develop an ingenious alternative: a 15 minute workout in your house with equipment that costs less than $10.

"Everybody can afford to bring exercise into their home and not spend hundreds of dollars," Dunn said. "You can just have the three key items in your home and you can do an incredible full body work out."

Dunn says those items may already be in your kitchen and if not you can pick them up at the grocery store.

First, grab a gallon water jug which is about 88 cents and weighs 8 pounds. Next, purchase a pack of paper plates for $1. Finally, you'll need a jump rope, which costs about $8.

The water jug can be used as a weight to lift during squats and a variety of exercises, and the paper plates can be used as gliders for planks and push-ups.

Dunn said the jump rope is excellent for cardio.

"We're showing how you can do some cardio, some full body strength, working on some core and do three rounds of that and you've got a 15 minute workout," Dunn said.

Dunn said some of the moves, like jumping rope, can take some time to get the hang of, so beginners shouldn't get discouraged. The only mandatory rule, she said, is that you try.

"You know what, we don't say this is a resolution," Dunn said. "It's all about raising your bar. What do you want to do for yourself in 2018? Raise your bar and stick to that."

For people who might struggle to get started, Dunn said to make modifications to the workout by cutting the 15 minute plan to five minutes, or even consider trying the squats without the water jug.

Here's how you can do the at-home workouts:
