Do you text while driving?

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and, as part of an effort to let drivers know about the very real dangers of texting while driving, there will be two simulators at The Streets of Southpoint from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday. The simulators will allow participants to drive and text with a virtual reality headset on and experience just how quickly distraction can cause an accident.

This would be a great experience for teen drivers. Six out of 10 teen crashes involve driver distraction. It also would be a great experience for us parents, who (ahem), are probably also texting and driving.

The program is free. Find it at the Durham mall's Cinema Circle.
