<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — U.S. Highway 401 (Fayetteville Road) near Garner was closed in both directions Friday afternoon near Ten Ten Road after a damaged power pole toppled and loomed across the travel lanes.

The damage to the pole was not the result of a traffic accident, authorities said, but it had been deemed a hazard to passing cars, so the road was closed. 

The danger had passed and the road was reopened at about 5:30 p.m.
