Temps in the 20s create black ice concern for Monday commute
Temperatures dipped into the 20s across central and eastern North Carolina early Monday, creating a potentially hazardous travel situation during the morning commute as the area continues to clean up from a shot of wintry weather.
Posted — Updated"Any water that is left on the roads from Sunday's melting will be frozen this morning," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "Don't be surprised to see slick spots, especially on bridges and in areas that saw more shade yesterday."
Plenty of melting did occur on Sunday as temperatures climbed into the upper 40s, and areas to the south and east of Raleigh saw plenty of improvement on the roads.
Areas north and west of Raleigh, which generally saw more precipitation on Friday and Saturday, could have more problem areas to start the week.
Daytime highs Monday will be in the upper 40s again under partly cloudy skies.
Warmer weather returns on Tuesday with high temperatures in the upper 50s, but another cold front will move across the region on Wednesday.
"With that front comes a chance for some precipitation later Wednesday. It looks like a low-impact event, but we could see some mixed precipitation," said WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss.
Temperatures on Wednesday will reach the low 40s and could drop throughout the day.
A warming trend takes over Thursday and into the weekend.
