TARBORO, N.C. — A short-term disaster recovery center will open in Tarboro at noon Thursday and remain open until Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.

The center, located in the Edgecombe County Administration Building at 201 Saint Andrew St., will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Representatives from FEMA, the N.C. Division of Emergency Management and other agencies will be at the recovery center to explain assistance programs and help survivors apply for disaster aid. Anyone looking for aid from FEMA must file a claim with an insurance company first, county officials said. Next, individuals and businesses need to apply for a Small Business Administration Loan.

Valeisha Harrell, a storm victim who is hoping to repair her flooded mobile home, called the FEMA aid, "a blessing."

"To all those, I'd advise anyone in need to come out," she said. "Accept it and be grateful for it."

Those hoping to obtain FEMA aid should bring a social security number, total household income and a complete list of damages and losses.
