Temperature roller coaster dips to teens, soars to 70s over weekend
Air sweeping down into the United States from the other side of the world is going to freeze North Carolina on Friday before warm air makes it feel like spring again.

After a few mild midweek days, the freezer door opens wide and lets a flow of frigid air into the Tar Heel State. The chilly winds will push temperatures down to the coldest mark of the season.
"It's going to be the coldest air we've seen since last February," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.
The high temperature on Wednesday will break into the low 50s, which is around normal for this time of year. But the wave of cold air will creep closer and closer until it pushes over the mountains and into the Triangle on Thursday and Friday.
"It will be even colder (on Thursday) night with our temperatures in the teens," Gardner said. "So, you can see the progression of cold air heading our way."
The cold won't last too long, though: A warm front pushing up from the south will bring temperatures back into the normal range, again getting into the 50s on Saturday. Heat will crank even higher on Sunday when the high will reach 71 degrees.
"The high temperature, of course, well above normal," Gardner said. "Normal is 53 (degrees) for the high temperature."
