Teen wanted in Lee County murder surrenders to police

— A 16-year-old who was wanted in connection with a Lee County murder that occurred in late September surrendered to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday afternoon.

Taveun Dayquan Davis, of 549 Wakefield Drive in Sanford, surrendered to police around noon in connection to the murder of Marcus Laverne Murchison.

Investigators said that Murchison was shot on Sept. 23 at a home on Beulah Brown Road and died the following day at UNC Hospitals.

Heather Shontell Lindsey, Murchison's girlfriend, told authorities that Davis tried to rob Murchison before shooting him. Lindsey said Davis also fired shots at her, but she was not hurt.

Davis was charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was being held without bond at the Lee County Jail on Tuesday afternoon.

    Why is it that 90-95% of the articles detailing murders are committed by young, African American, males? Things have absolutely gotten out of control in this community but no one is willing to stand up and call it like it is.
