Teen to be tried as adult in Henderson mom's death

HENDERSON, N.C. — A 15-year-old charged in the death of his mother in Henderson will be tried as an adult, authorities said Wednesday. 

Jaquareus Holden is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Letitia Hammond. 

Hammond, 33, was shot six times on the right side of her body, including twice in the arm, chest and head, according to the report by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill.

Henderson police said that Hammond's 13-year-old daughter found her mother's body in their home on South Carolina Avenue on June 15.

Authorities haven't disclosed a possible motive in the case.

Holden turns 16 years old this week.
