GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Authorities were searching Thursday for a 17-year-old in connection with a fire at a local Wal-Mart two weeks ago.

A Jan. 15 fire in the clothing department of the Wal-Mart at 1002 N. Spence Ave. forced the evacuation of the store and sent two employees to the hospital. Wal-Mart officials estimated the damage from the fire at $300,000.

Investigators said they believe the fire was set as a distraction so store merchandise could be stolen.

A juvenile was arrested on Jan. 18 Friday and charged with felony burning to personal property.

A warrant has been issued for Fiante Semaj Amerson, of Goldsboro, on a charge of burning of personal property. Amerson hadn't been arrested as of Thursday.

Anybody with information about the fire or Amerson's whereabouts is asked to call Investigator D. Bethea of the Goldsboro Police Department at 919-580-4214 or Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255.
