— Police are investigating a report that a 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at the Smithfield Public Library on East Market Street Monday evening.

The girl told investigators that a 14-year-old boy pushed her against a wall, groped her and tried to kiss her, police said Wednesday. It wasn't clear whether she knew the boy or if police have a suspect.

No other information was released.

    "This is why my 13 year old has her black belt in Tae Kwon Do."

    One good punch from a boxer makes that training useless. She needs to learn to do more to protect herself such as recognize when these situations come up, Resist using any means possible, and report it immediately.

    My question to the police is why wasn't this reported to the librarian immediately so they know who did it? Something is fishy about this story.

    This is why my 13 year old has her black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Self defense classes should be offered in the public schools. Sad this is what our society has come to.

    LOL @ jcrew1979! He is lucky that he was not hurt. (The most important thing is the victim). But what I mean is, he could messed with the "wrong" person and ended up not in jail, but in a hospital bed ~ which he would have deserved!

    The scary thing is, this kid (which I use that word lightly, since he tried pulling an adult stunt), is a danger to others now! It's probably only a matter of time, before he does this again, or something much worse.

    What really bothers me about this is a number: 14. If he's caught, even if he rapes someone - due to his being a juvenile, he MIGHT be put in a JDC until he's 18, MAYBE! And that makes no sense! If a "kid" or child can commit an adult crime, that individual needs to pull adult TIME! Period! End of sentence!!!!!

    Amen Beth! I would have kicked him so hard you know where that it would have rearranged his manhood.

    She should have kneed the hell out of him, or better yet, punched him in the face!

    "It's a sad society when our young people are not even safe inside of a public library!!" -- COMMENT

    Libraries don't claim to be safe places, but just another public place. Parents and patrons should be cautious when in the library.

    "It's a sad society when our young people are not even safe inside of a public library!!"

    ==================================================

    It is even sadder when the young perpetrators appear in court and suddenly they are "just children " not capable of appreciating their heinous crimes and consequences of their acts committed against innocent victims. The courts need to start putting these offenders away for a very long time!!! Society needs to cease and desist with the bleeding heart liberal approach to these miscreants!!Let the offenders rot in jail regardless of their age if and when convicted!! Society has had enough. Most folks in this country are fed up with the leniency given these offenders by the courts. Decent hard working, law abiding citizens are at a breaking point and have lost faith in the court system and politicians.

    Groped is correct, isn't it?

    yes, I think the other person is confusing "groped" with "gypped."

    "Was he a gypsy? Maybe he was "grabbing" the girl." - Groped is correct, isn't it?
