Raleigh teen drowns in Eno River Rock Quarry

A teen drowned Thursday afternoon in the Eno Quarry, according to Orange County authorities.

DURHAM, N.C. — A 17-year-old drowned Thursday afternoon in the Eno River Rock Quarry, according to Orange County authorities.

Eno fire and rescue crews, rangers and a dive team were searching for Lamont Burt, of Raleigh, just after 4 p.m. The teen's body was pulled from the water shortly after 8 p.m.

Officials said Burt was swimming with friends and family when he went under and never re-surfaced. According to multiple posts on social media, Burt recently graduated from Broughton High School and had planned to attend Ferrum College in Virginia this fall.
