DURHAM, N.C. — A 14-year-old pedestrian died Friday after being hit by a car in Durham, police said.

Jaydn Wilkins, of Durham, was running across North Duke Street at Stadium Drive at about 4 p.m. and was hit by a Toyota Camry driven by Dianne Barnes of Raleigh, according to police.

According to witnesses, Wilkins was carrying a skateboard under his arm at the time of the incident. Wilkins was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

According to investigators, Wilkins did not have the right of way at the time of the incident. Alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors.

The southbound lanes of Duke Street and one northbound lane were closed for approximately two hours after the incident.

No additional information was immediately available.
